Letter from Recruitment Chair

To the PNMs of 2023 Spring Recruitment, 

Hello hello! I’m so glad you stumbled upon this letter - if you’re in a similar position to the one I was in before recruitment, you’re probably feeling a bit overwhelmed by the opinions of family and friends, social media posts, and plethora of online “insights” on what sorority recruitment is really like. 

If this calms your nerves at all: your recruitment experience is entirely what you make of it, and the best preparation you can possibly do for yourself is none at all.

(…aside from picking out some comfortable shoes to wear throughout the week).

And while that statement may seem very ambiguous - that’s the best part! Everyone’s conceptions of Greek life may look a bit different right now and that can play a huge role in how you approach the week. At least for me, I had no idea what to expect; I don’t have any siblings, my mom was an athlete, and my dad didn’t go to college... In the wise words of Gucci Mane, I was feeling a bit lost in the sauce. When it came time for the first round of recruitment, I entered the week without any expectations or desired outcomes, and as cheesy as it is, I found “my people” from the get-go. The greatest part? Those “people” were from a bunch of different houses. The connections and encouragement that I received from women across the row was incredible, and those who I met with on Sisterhood and Preference day have become my good friends. Recruitment is truly an incredible opportunity to open yourself up to new faces, and there’s no right or wrong way to do it! 

 

The question I’ve heard most (and my favorite) during the final rounds of recruitment is “How did you know Delta Gamma was right for you?” Simply put, the environment I was exposed to at DG was effortlessly welcoming; the women I interacted with weren’t afraid to let their guard down, and in turn I felt the same. The conversations I had ranged from favorite concerts to surfing to preferred sleeping temperatures… There really wasn’t a dull moment.

 

If you’re unafraid to blaze your own trail and stop for some dance breaks along the way, I’m confident that you’ll find that incredible environment, too. I mean after all, you can’t get lost if you embrace the sauce. I can’t wait to meet you all so soon!
